Broomsedge Bluestem (Andropogon virginicus)

Description:  Perennial erect clump grass, much taller than wide, to 4’+ with abundant handsome flower/seed heads in autumn.  Attractive, especially when in bloom. 

Natural Habitat:  Pinelands, open woods and meadows.

Planting and Care:  Full or partial sunlight, resistant to weed overgrowth due to its height.  Drought tolerant after establishment.

Pros:  A handsome tall grass, adds texture as background in flower meadows, and excellent for restorations.  Will recruit but not massively.

Cons:   Relatively short-lived perennial.
