Crinum Lily (Crinum americanum)

Description:  Wetland plant with thick leaves and upright spikes of large white fragrant flowers.  

Natural Habitat:  Shallow swamps, inundated prairies and shore edges.

Planting and Care:  Plant in a water feature, shallow standing water, or boggy ground. Best in rich organic soil. Will grow in partial shade, but flowers best in full sun.

Pros:  Beautiful flower spikes, attract all sorts of insects.  Will spread slowly in a water feature by rhizomes.

Cons:  Needs standing water, or at least very boggy ground, to do well.
