Description: A 2-3 ft-tall short-lived perennial w abundant yellow flowers, similar to Common Partridgepea (Chamaecrista fasciculata), but with striking dark red or black anthers, attracting butterflies and native pollinator bees.
Natural Habitat: Rock pinelands and open areas.
Planting and Care: Keep moist initially, but tolerates drier conditions once established. Flowers best in full sunlight, but also in partial/light shade.
Pros: Attractive flowers. Larval host plant for cloudless sulphur (Phoebis sennae) Reseeds spontaneously if ground is cleared. Erect and spreading, taller than broad, and tends not to crowd out nearby smaller plants. A great small shrub for native plantings and flower gardens !
Cons: Needs at least partial sun for best appearance.
