Description: Perennial with erect 3 ft spikes of light purple autumn flowers.
Natural Habitat: Seasonally wet/moist pinelands and fields in Florida and much of SE.
Planting and Care: Water daily for 2-3 weeks. Tolerant of dry soil after establishment. Flowers best in sun. Dies back yearly, resprouts from underground corm. Can self-seed if ground is kept clear.
Pros: Beautiful autumn flower spikes. Excellent for use in wildflower garden. Supports butterflies, other pollinators. Stout spikes shorter than Chapman's Blazing Star; less prone to lean or sprawl. Once established, it's tolerant of drought and poor soil.
Cons: Not much.
