East Coast Dune Sunflower (Helianthus debilis subsp. debilis)

Description:  Perennial widely spreading sunflower to 2', with rapid growth rate, forming large patches.

Natural Habitat:  Coastal areas, but does well inland. 

Planting and Care:  Initial daily watering for 2 weeks, can tolerate drought once established but prefers moist soil.  Full or part sun. Tolerates salt wind.

Pros:  Attractive flowers and excellent ground cover for large areas. Supports pollinators and birds.

Cons:  Tends to get scraggly after flowering; best to cut it back yearly.
