False Mint aka Sixangle Foldwing (Dicliptera sexangularis)

Description:  Large fast-growing erect herbaceous annual, occasionally perennial, 1-4 ft tall, with 1" long bright red tubular flowers that bloom much of the year

Natural Habitat:  Coastal areas, edges of hammocks, brackish marshes, mangroves and other wetland edges in South Florida.

Planting and Care:   Water daily for 2-3 weeks.  Needs moist soil to flower well, but tolerates short dry periods. Full sun to light shade. Reseeds. 

Pros:  Flowers attract hummingbirds and larger butterflies. Host for the Cuban Crescent. Tolerates brackish water and mild salt spray. A good plant for coastal areas.

Cons:  Not much; needs soil with some organic content (not just sand).
