Flatspike Sedge (Abildgaardia ovata)

Description: Sedge with densely spaced dark green needle-like leaves often tipped with small seed heads. Short, to 1’ or so.  

Natural Habitat:  Pine rockland, marl prairie and coastal uplands.

Planting and Care:  Tolerates partial shade, but does best in full sun, and can be suppressed by more aggressive plants.  It is drought tolerant after establishment.

Pros:  A small but handsome sedge that adds texture to a mixed grass/wildflower planting. 

Cons:   None except for need to have some space to grow.
