Description:  Perennial clump sedge,  6-18" tall with green-tipped white bracts.

Natural Habitat:  Marl prairies and rock pinelands in Miami-Dade and Lower Keys. The flowers resemble the related Starrush Whitetop, but the Florida Whitetop grows as a clump (versus by rhizomes), and is found in drier habitats.

Planting and Care:  Initial daily watering for 2 weeks; Full or part sun. Tolerates poor-quality soil and drought.

Pros:  Attractive white and green bracts. Won't overpower smaller plants.

Cons:  Not much.  Photo copyright Roger Hammer
