Description: Perennial clump grass to 5’ + when in flower. Tall flower spikes, each with a long row of golden-brown seeds along one side; striking in angled sunlight.
Natural Habitat: Pinelands, open woods and meadows.
Planting and Care: Ideal as a background grass behind wildflowers, due to its height. After establishment, doesn’t require much care. Can be pruned back after flowering.
Pros: Very showy when in flower. Host plant for 3 butterflies: Delaware skipper, Dusted skipper and Swarthy skipper.
Cons: Not much.
