Sensitive Partridgepea (Chamaecrista nictitans)

Description:  Annual herb/small shrub to 3’ with numerous yellow flowers.  Moderately attractive. 

Natural Habitat:  Pinelands,  open woods and meadows.

Planting and Care:  Flowers  best in full sunlight.  Is drought tolerant after establishment.

Pros:  Attractive flowers, frequented by butterflies and native bees.   Host plant for gray hairstreak, ceraunus blue, cloudless sulfur, sleepy orange, and little yellow.

Cons:   Annual, but reseeds if ground is fairly open.

Note:  As ranges of butterflies can fluctuate over time,  planting host plant(s) may not automatically result in bringing a desired species to a given area.
