Wild Basil (Ocimum campechianum)

Description:   Perennial herb to 3+ ft with aromatic mint-like flowers and leaves. Frequented by insects. Does best in soil with some organic content. Moderate growth.

Natural Habitat: Rock Pinelands and hammock edges; widespread in tropical America, but listed as endangered in Florida.

Planting and Care:  Water daily till established, after which it has moderate drought resistance.  Full sun to partial shade. 

Pros:  A handsome herbaceous perennial with attractive flowers. 

Cons: Brown spots from leaf miners (but don't usually cause major injury).
